This year picking out the tree was quite different from how we usually do it! For many years, we all would go and everyone had to agree on the perfect tree. The past couple of years, Christopher asked to go and pick out the tree for us, so we let him...it seemed to mean a lot to him. This year, however, he did not get home until Christmas Eve, so we had to go ahead without him...but there never seemed to be a time when we were all in the mood for a tree search.
So finally, one day Rick came home and said, "I see some nice trees up at Publix...let's just go get one of those."
I wasn't in the mood and neither was Elizabeth...especially to pick out a tree from a grocery store? NO! Something just wasn't right about it.
"C'mon", he kept insisting. "They are the perfect size for where the tree will go...and they are only $25.00." My ears perked up, and granted, Publix is in our neighborhood, only 2 minutes down the street, but I was in my comfy clothes and did not want to go out!
Finally he says, "How about this...you just drive up into the pick-up area where the trees are, I'll get out and show you the different trees. You pick one. You don't even have to change clothes or get out of the car." And that's just what we did. We pulled up into the grocery pick-up area where the trees were, he hopped out and and stood up several of the trees to which I gave thumbs up or thumbs down. He finally pulled out the "perfect one", went inside to pay, and we were done.
It ended up being a beautiful tree and fit perfectly in the spot we chose this year. Tall and not too wide, not to mention a great price. Yes, it was the height of laziness for me, but it will be a Christmas we will always remember as having a "drive-by tree"!
