The Trooper got me & Elizabeth home on Saturday...but just barely. We stayed on I-95 with the Cannon's & the Royal's, who graciously offered to watch out for us on the drive home...at least as far as Jacksonville (where they live.) I figured if we could make it to Jax, we could make it a few more hours to Orlando. We made it almost all the way home...about 5 minutes away, the car started chugging, lurching, and stuttering. We were going maybe 20 mph and got some of the most hateful looks and stares as well as honks and even the ugly finger a time or two.
Long story short, the dealer wants $6700 for a new transmission...yeah, right.
We have been advised to stay away from Aamco...and they want around $3500.
As a last resort, we will now get it looked at by a "friend of a friend" who works on trannies. But don't know how long that will be, and since Elizabeth has a job to get back and forth to, we had to resort to a rental car. Aack! We are actually paying for her to get to work...how crazy is that? But it's a good job and she can't afford to lose it, so the bullet biting begins.
Now we are at the fun point of deciding whether to fix it (but only if the price is right), or dump it and get a new/used car. Not a happy time for us right now.
