I just got home from my third appointment with Jonathan, my YMCA personal coach, and I am STOKED! Since starting my training program with him at the end of October, I have gained 3 pounds (which I was initially freaking out about), but at the same time I have lost a full one percent of body fat! Apparently, the weight I have gained is because I turned fat to muscle. Jonathan says that a big mistake people make is to measure workout progress solely on weight, because while I have gained three pounds, I have lost fat, turned it to muscle, and lost inches as well. He says it's awesome that I have lost a full percentage point in such a short time...shows I am really working hard and sticking with it.So I now have a new perspective on the bathroom scales. I would much rather weigh a tiny bit more if it means that I am more muscular and feel better. From now on I am not going to give so much credence to the scales and instead I will focus more on inches and body fat percentages.

congrats Susan!!! wonderful job!! He's right... i used to be bummed when i was in college becaue i gained... but i was turning the fat into muscle... most people don't get that. Your doing great!!!
